Why is it so hard to estimate what my project will cost?

Under Construction

Have you ever wondered, "How much will it cost to turn my house into my dream home?"

If so, you're not alone.

Thinking about remodeling your kitchen or bath, or adding an addition to your home? We get calls into our office all the time from people wanting to know how much it would cost. Unfortunately, it is just not possible to provide an accurate estimate until we have a lot more information.

Accurately estimating a remodeling project is tricky for several reasons.

  • Your project is unique. We start with a general estimate based on other, similar projects. But the specifics of the project you have in mind can significantly affect the cost.
  • There are many steps involved in a great remodel. Your total cost is a combination of estimates for everything from design, construction, plumbing, electrical and finish work (just to name a few).
  • The selection of materials, appliances, and other finish items that reflect your personal style and taste can have a big effect on final cost.
  • The existing condition of your home. Everything from how it was built, to how difficult it is to access construction areas such as basements or crawl spaces, can affect cost.

Thankfully, our expert estimators will take you through the entire process, and you'll know exactly what your project should cost long before our first carpenter walks through your door!
